Welcome to Yokohama Nature Sanctuary

YNS is located on the southern edge of Yokohama and just next to Kamakura. Connected to other locally managed forests, this forms the largest green space in the city. There are hiking courses that connect to Konandai, Kanazawa Bunko and Kamakura. Nearby, you can also climb Mt. Oomaru, the highest peak in the city.

The main facility is the Nature Center, serves as the base for information, a program hall and the offices for the rangers. There are 4 nature trails that begin from the Nature Center. Along the trails, visitors will find observation huts and interpretive signs to explain more about the Sanctuary.

It has many diverse habitats with rolling hills of forests, grasslands, open areas, ponds, small marsh habitat, and the headwaters for small rivers.

The Wild Bird Society of Japan is working with Yokohama City and the “Yokohama Nature Sanctuary Volunteer Support Group” to conserve these beautiful forests and its biodiversity.

We hope to make more people feel closer to nature and more widely communicate the importance of biodiversity, protection of local species and conservation of the natural environment.
